So often, writers’ discussions center on craft. That’s the hard part, after all (and the fun part). But for April’s Writing Show, I wanted to tackle something even harder: successfully selling books.
Jane Friedmanis a publishing superstar — if you’re a serious writer, you need to subscribe to her Electric Speed and Hot Sheet emails. Stacy Hawkins Adamsis an inspirational and women’s fiction author with a gift for connecting with her audience. And Chanel Cleeton, author of the new novel WHEN WE LEFT CUBA, had the best pre-order campaign I’ve seen: a collaboration with Besame Cosmetics and Fountain Bookstore to give all pre-order customers a vintage-inspired lipstick. Genius. (You know I bought one.) Our three speakers offered some of the most specific advice I’ve heard on enticing people to come to launches (give them a reason beyond just a reading), building a mailing list (it’s OK if you don’t send out a newsletter every week) and the value of being a BookBub Featured Deal.
Missed the show? It’s not too late to follow these authors and watch what they do next.
