If you think writing is a lonely profession, you’re doing it wrong.
Since I first attended the annual conference organized by the James River Writers, 9 or 10 years ago, my circle of writing colleagues has grown ever larger. Through JRW I’ve met critique partners, beta readers, retreat buddies and cocktail commiserators — all brilliant and wise and compassionate friends.
In 2019, I accepted the invitation to co-chair (with Amanda Sue Creasey) the Writing Show, JRW’s monthly panel discussion that brings together writers, agents and editors. I was a little daunted at the prospect of organizing this event. Would anyone want to speak? Would anyone want to come? January’s show saw a huge crowd for a lively conversation among our panelists: Marc Cheatham, Rachel Moyle Beanland and moderator Kristen Green. They were phenomenal. If you live in Richmond, come to the next one! And bring your best writing friend.
